St. Pölten surprises in the “Wonder of the World” vote
Klangturm ranks 6th in the Falstaff TRAVEL vote – Lower Austria stands out for its architecture and diverse residential regions
Lower Austria is attracting international attention: In the Falstaff TRAVEL community vote on new contemporary “Wonders of the World”, the Klangturm in St. Pölten achieved an impressive result. The striking landmark of Lower Austria’s capital received around seven percent of the votes and ranked 6th, ahead of internationally renowned buildings such as the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, the Sydney Opera House and the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
The vote was inspired by an initiative of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), which launched a global search for seven new contemporary wonders in 2026. Falstaff TRAVEL picked up on this initiative and conducted its own vote among its community. The Klangturm in St. Pölten finished in sixth place.
St. Pölten among renowned international landmarks
At 77 metres high, the Klangturm in St. Pölten’s government district is one of the most distinctive landmarks of the Lower Austrian capital. The steel-and-glass structure combines modern architecture with sound art and also offers views across St. Pölten and the Mostviertel region.
In the Falstaff ranking, the Klangturm finds itself in prominent company. The vote is led by the Sagrada Família in Barcelona, followed by the Metropol Parasol in Seville and the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg.
The fact that a landmark from Lower Austria ranked so highly among internationally renowned architectural icons is remarkable and provides a fitting opportunity to take a closer look at Lower Austria as a place to live.
Lower Austria as a diverse residential location
Lower Austria also has a great deal to offer as a residential location. Austria’s largest federal state combines proximity to Vienna with a wide variety of living environments: from urban living in St. Pölten and attractive towns and municipalities to rural regions surrounded by nature.
This diversity makes searching for a property exciting, but not always straightforward. Location, transport connections, infrastructure and price levels can vary considerably even between neighbouring municipalities.
Anyone looking for an apartment or house should therefore consider not only the property itself, but also the surrounding area and the long-term development of the location.
Why local real estate expertise matters
Local market knowledge can provide valuable guidance when searching for a property. Not every attractive property is easy to find at first glance, and not every seemingly affordable property will necessarily meet your needs in the long term.
The real estate advisors at Raiffeisen Immobilien Lower Austria know the regional markets from their day-to-day work. They are familiar with the local property market as well as the specific characteristics of the individual regions and municipalities.
This enables them to support clients in finding a property that matches their individual requirements and preferences.
